Ever since its opening in 2007, Le Club Chasse et Pêche has been of Montreal‘s most praised restaurants for traditional refined cuisine with local Canadian ingredients, and has even been endorsed by Anthony Bourdain!
Nestled in an old stone building of the Old Port of Montreal, you’ll have to keep your eyes open for the restaurant logo: the entrance has no sign nor windows. As soon as you step in you’ll get a feel of its signature cozy, dark atmosphere. The restaurant has two separate cavern-like dining rooms, one of which with a seated bar space. The old-school decor, the low dark ceilings, the wood fixtures and leather trimmings will make you feel like you are in a fancy lodge or a private men’s club. It has an upscale, fancy and romantic vibe, but not overly stuffy.
Closed on Sundays and Mondays
As the restaurant’s name suggests, meat and fish are the stars of Le Club Chasse et Pêche‘s menu. Chef Claude Pelletier offers a large number of refined French-Quebec recipes with an interesting personal twist on traditional fish and game-meat dishes. As an appetizer, make sure you order their signature Braised Piglet Risotto, Foie Gras Shavings $17 – incredibly rich and decadent. As a main dish, their eponymous Chasse et Pêche is a local version of Surf & Turf. Their $41 Ora King Salmon is cooked to perfection (i.e. almost rare) and the $44 Lamb 2 ways, zucchinni, cumin, romesco sauce is perfectly executed. For those coming with a massive appetite (and budget!) ask for their Hot and Solid Meal special. A knowledgeable sommelier will help you choose from their extensive wine selection.
Service is very attentive, although they purposely serve smaller bread portions to “the ladies”. Naturally, I went on a rant with the poor waiter, who explained this was to not make female diners uncomfortable??? 😡 I made sure he felt bad and embarrassed about such discrimination, and that I got extra bread!
Le Club Chasse et Pêche is the place for a corporate meal, a romantic date-night, or for visitors looking for a local foodie experience.
Open for dinner Tues-Sat 6pm-10:30pm
