Pizza loves Emily, and I love pizza! And whenever I want a break from New York pies, Emmy Squared is the destination for Detroit-style pan pizza.

Emmy Squared is the Williamsburg offshoot from the people behind Emily, a.k.a Pizza loves Emily. Emily and her co-owner/head-chef husband Matthew Hyland met over pizza, and she knew he was The One (pizza will do that do you). They decided to spread the love and opened their first Brooklyn restaurant, Emily, in Clinton Hill in 2014, after which the duo almost immediately became the rising stars of the New York culinary scene. After the Clinton Hill flagship’s incredible popularity, the couple opened a sister restaurant Emmy Squared in Williamsburg in 2016, before finally expanding into Manhattan in 2017.

This modern Williamsburg pizzeria has many similarities with Emily, including an epic burger, but also a key distinction: square pizzas. Emmy Squared‘s menu features several unique recipes of Detroit-style deep-dish pizza that earned the restaurant its reputation. But most notably, you’ll find their award-winning Le Big Matt burger. Sure, this is a legit pizza joint, but no trip to Emmy Squared is complete without ordering this bad boy. Along with its sister the Emmy burger, this single menu item changed the whole burger game in New York City, and will make your top burger list as soon as you have the first luscious bite.

Le Big Matt burger: double-stack Fleisher’s pasture-raised beef, American cheese, pickles, mizuna, Sammy Sauce, Tom Cat pretzel bun, waffle fries – $23

So what’s so special about the Le Big Matt? Le juicy double-stack Fleisher’s pasture-raised patties, le buttery soft Tom Cat pretzel bun, le oozing American cheese, le decadent Sammy sauce… It’s like a Big Mac and Shake Shack had a burgergasm superbaby. Whatever chef Hyland was on when he created his burgers, I’ll have some of what he’s having (his burgers should come with an addiction disclaimer!)! Le Big Matt is available at the downstairs burger bar or in the regular Emmy Squared dining room at lunch only.

You’re on a calorie kill anyway, so make sure you get their Cheddar Curds and Okonomi Fries too!

You get the point, the burger is a must order (they also have some pretty awesome Italian sandwiches…) but with a side of Emmy Squared pizza of course! Emmy Squared ’s menu showcases over a dozen unique pizza recipes, divided into two types of sauces (red and white). The Detroit-style pies are deep dish with a perfectly crisp thick crust.

Emmy Squared’s pan pizza is legit, but I’d say it isn’t for purists. A lot of their signature pies are inventive with unconventional toppings and flavor combos, so if you’re one of those who cringes at honey or blobs of sauce on a pizza, definitely stick to the few classic ones.

The Colony pizza is their best seller!

Drinks wise, you can choose between wine (on tap, because we’re hipsters), in-house cocktails, and even sip on a their extensive selection of bourbon or other spirits, but nothing pairs better with burgers & pizza than craft beer!

This Williamsburg restaurant is more spacious than at Emily BK, with a very casual vibe and sparse decor. You can have your meal at one of the high-top or standard tables at the white-brick walled dining room, or head to the burger bar downstairs. The Emmy Squared hype is not fading yet, so reservations are a must.

Emmy Squared is definitely a calorie-killer destination – come here to celebrate a cheat-meal in a big way, with a small or bigger group of friends, for girls’ or boys’ night out, or for a date with no post-dinner expectations! 😆

#PizzaLovesEmily, but your burgers definitely deserve an Emmy award!
