Maiden Lane opened in 2013 and is one of the few Avenue B quaint wine bars. It’s a casual East Village bar facing Tompkins Square Park, the sort of neighborhood place I would stop by on my way home if I lived in the area.
You step into a chill and cozy atmosphere, ambient lighting, decorated with dark wood and a minimal design.. but with tin cans sketches on the walls because – this is what this place is all about! I’m not talking about your supermarket’s Bumble Bee canned tuna. Maiden Lane‘s owners wanted to bring in the “eclectic world of fine European tinned seafood” to NYC. Now that’s what you call a market niche! You’d think there’s a Scandinavian feel to the place with its extensive selection of canned seafood and its yummy whitefish platter. Along with their tinned fish cans, you can nibble on healthy light snacks and salads, sandwiches, and a decadent hot crab dip. I hear their seasonal lobster roll is great too – TBT (to be tested!).
What keeps me coming back to Maiden Lane is their Italian Orange wine. So unique! I crave it when I’m sick of rosé, and there are not many places where you can get a good glass of Orange wine in NYC. Good selection of beer and spirits as well. Everything is moderately priced.
Order a glass of Orange Wine!
There is no real kitchen here and everything is prepared at the bar. Sit there if you’re a small party or on a date. The large high-rise banquet tables with bar stools are great for groups. Reservations are available for parties of 6 or more via the Reserve app.
Maiden Lane is your casual no-frills Alphabet City wine bar, with good music and a great vibe, especially on Sunday evenings when the vinyl DJ spins some tunes
Maiden Lane also has a Midtown East location on Park avenue and Vanderbilt – good for after work Happy Hours!
