The Otheroom is a secluded, sexy beer & wine bar tucked away on one of my favorite West Village streets. You’ll hardly notice the entrance on the Perry Street block, which gives a speakeasy feel to it. This is THE neighborhood spot to bring your date if you want to seal the deal! Step inside, you’ll understand why. 😉

As you walk in, you’ll immediately notice how intimate and sultry this quaint little bar is. To say this place is cozy is an understatement. Everything about it calls for intimacy, with a lush decor, brick walls and warm color tones, a low-key wooden rustic ambiance – and very dim lighting. I mean, this place is DARK! I have to use my iphone flashlight to read the chalkboard bar menu 💡 ! Thankfully, the bartenders are super friendly and help out with great recommendations.

The Otheroom bar

The Otheroom serves beer and wine only, no cocktails nor hard liquor (nor food). For such a hole in the wall, their selection is quite extensive, with several old and new-world wines and a large selection of craft beer to choose from, all at a reasonable price. I’ve never seen it overly crowded so getting a drink is an easy task. The front room has a bar area and seating against the wall with high topped tables. Stick to this area if you’re on a first date or just having drinks with a small group of friends.

Now, the lounge area in the back is where things get serious 😈 . If you thought the front was dark, the back room is almost pitch black! I tried to post a relevant picture but I could just as well upload a big black square. This isolated room is what I like to call the love cave  , or to be more blunt,  the makeout den. Every time I’ve sat there with friends (#mistake), we found ourselves awkwardly sipping our drink amongst couples who weren’t afraid of PDA 😯 . The Otheroom might as well be renamed The Getaroom!  And no wonder – everything about this space will put you in the mood for getting it on: the candle lighting, the velvet couches, the baby-making tracks playing…  And let’s face it, it’s so freaking dark in there that even the worst butterface will look like a 10! Bringing a date here is basically equivalent to writing “I-plan-on-making-out-with-you-tonight” on your forehead. So be warned, if you want to avoid any awkwardness, do not come here on a first date. Come with someone you really like or feel confident (to score?) with. The ambiance will work in your favor.

Hanky-panky aside, The Otheroom is a cool intimate bar for beer and wine lovers, prefect for late night caps, or for pre- or after-dinner drinks, since it’s conveniently located in the mecca of superb West Village restaurants. Stop by, for example, while you’re killing time from your 2-hour wait at The Spotted Pig. It’s also a 3-minute walk from the Hudson river boardwalk if you want a romantic stroll.
